Brahmas to offer 31 free inline hockey clinics in Blacktop Brahmas 2003
Fort Worth- With no ice at the Fort Worth Convention Center during the
summer months, the Fort Worth Brahmas are lacing up their skates, grabbing
their sticks, and taking their game to the streets and parking lots of
Tarrant County once again this summer. For the fifth year in a row, the
Brahmas will be conducting their series of free inline hockey clinics known
as Blacktop Brahmas.
Blacktop Brahmas features a traveling Border Patrol rink that will make 31
stops throughout the Tarrant County area in June and July. Players and
coaches from the Brahmas will instruct participants in a variety of hockey
skills including skating, passing, shooting, and offensive and defensive
strategy. The teams of participants will then scrimmage to close out the
two-hour session. The Blacktop Brahmas clinics are open to children between
the ages of six and sixteen and are free of charge.
Mike Barack, the Brahmas general manager, is anticipating another prosperous
summer of Blacktop Brahmas events.
"We are excited to be able to offer this program to our community for
another summer," Brahmas General Manager Mike Barack said. "Kids really
enjoy participating in the program and working with professional hockey
players. This is a great opportunity for the Brahmas to expose parents and
kids to the recreational and competitive opportunities that the sport of
hockey has to offer. I'm expecting this summer tour to be our biggest and
best Blacktop Brahmas yet."
Several notable players from the Brahmas 2002-2003 season will join Brahmas
head coach Bill Inglis to serve as instructors for the clinics. All Star
left wing Chad Woollard, the Brahmas leading goal scorer last year with 35,
will be at the majority of the tour stops. Defenseman Adam Davis and center
David Fry will also be a part of the instructional staff.
Inglis, who will be working his first summer of the Blacktop clinics, shares
Barack's enthusiasm.
"This allows us to remain ingrained in the community during the summer
months. The players become more accessible during the tour, helping to
develop interest in hockey as well as providing safe family entertainment.
Hopefully parents and kids in and around the Tarrant County area will take
advantage of these free clinics and come out and have some fun with us,"
stated the Brahmas bench boss.
The Blacktop Brahmas clinics will be held at different retail and restaurant
locations of the presenting sponsors of the program. In addition to the
sixteen Blacktop Brahmas events that will be conducted in Fort Worth, tour
stops will also be made in Arlington, Grapevine, Watauga, Bedford, Willow
Park, and Irving.
The Blacktop Brahmas Summer Tour 2003 will begin with two stops next week.
The tour will kick off on Thursday, June 5th at the Diamond Shamrock located
at 4150 Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth. On Friday, June 6th, Blacktop
Brahmas will move on to Arbrook Square at 3810 Cooper Street in Arlington.

One of the primary sponsors of the Blacktop Brahmas Summer Tour 2003 is
Cencor Realty-Weitzman Group. Ten tour stops will be held at various Cencor
Realty-Weitzman Group retail centers across Tarrant County. Linda Jackson,
the Vice President of Property Management for Cencor, said that her company
is excited to play such a major role in bringing this program to the youth
of Tarrant County.
"Blacktop Brahmas is an outstanding community relations program. Cencor
Realty and the Weitzman Group are elated to have the Blacktop Brahmas tour
come to so many of our retail centers. We want to play an active and
beneficial role in our business community and this is one way to do it.
Hopefully we'll be able to welcome hundreds of kids and families to our
centers to participate in Blacktop Brahmas," said Jackson.
The Blacktop Brahmas clinics are spread out over the summer months to give
out of school students another recreational and sports alternative.
Fourteen of the free clinics will be held in June, and seventeen will be
held in July.
The Brahmas will provide sticks, street-hockey balls, helmets, goalie gear,
shin guards and colored jerseys for kids to use while participating. In
line skates are encouraged, but not required, for participants.
All of the clinics will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon except for the
event on Friday, July 4th. The holiday clinic being held at Stockyards
Station at 130 E. Exchange Avenue in Fort Worth will run from 9:00-11:00
