Actually, the site has been up for a long time. They are focussing on Tourism and conventions. The "mountain" will have real ice and snow play areas
inside, and will be the largest "building" in the world, according to their site. One cool think they will have...ice slides. These look like water
slides, but have real ice covering them.

By the way, this is one of Moncrief's favorite projects!

Originally the skiing would have been inside like a dome structure, but the project scope grew and now it will be an outdoor skiing activity. The inside of the
"mountain" will produce everything from what I have been told.
I don't doubt this will happen. This is not a new idea, there are several in Europe already and very successful. One of the major backers of this is the group that built and maintains this - http://www.skidxb.com/English/welcome_eng.htm?mid=1&sid=1 Not going to fault Moncrief on this one. This is just another step in the direction of developing FW to the north. This facility will be close to Cabelo's (which I wish was closer to downtown or SW FW) and Alliance airport. Might even build some passenger business needs for Alliance someday along with the MotorSpeedway. There is a bigger guy in this than Moncrief as well, Dick Army. Drew |

Having lived for 35 years within 5 miles of the area where this would be built, I have seen countless proposed projects. Cabelas is the only one to have come
to fruition. These promotors are looking for investors. Don't run to give them your money. I still believe this deal will not happen - not in my lifetime
anyway.

I also think this will happen. I have spoken with a company out of Colorado which is bidding on the inside ice areas. The guy used to head the largest
manufacturer and designer of water slides, did most of the work at Hurrican Harbour. This is real. He has also tried the material they are going to use for
skiing, and he loves it.

Most hockey players don't like it. It doesn't "feel right". Ditto figure skaters. Still say don't run out and buy stock.

I heard about through some circles that indicate to me that it isn't a pie in the sky idea, but something very real and that is coming. These people
don't just talk about things like this without real merit behind it. Could something fall through? Sure, but the names I am hearing around this indicate
some very good resources that don't usually fall through.
Honestly, hockey players and figure skaters are not who I would be concerned with. The question is will the common tourist like it, and from what I have read in Europe, the answer is yes. I will be in Germany in a few weeks, maybe I will ask some of my fellow colleagues if they know anything about these type of facilities.... Drew |

Gary, you are talking about two different materials. The synthetic (plastic) ice sucks. It is also very hard ont eh skates. You spray silicone on top of the
plastic. That is what makes it slick. It also makes for a great oil stain if you fall on it.
The ski surface is actually layered material, which allows a back and forth motion under skis. I have not tried it, but I have been told it is "pretty close" to real snow. Near Fire will use fake snow and ice on teh outside, and real snow and ice inside the mountain. The plans are really pretty spectacular. |

Who needs fake ice? Just strap on some inlines and smooth concrete will work just fine. The only problem is stopping fast.....
