I knew this man for 20+ years and he is one of the reasons I am a chaplain now. He was an encourager and helped many people, both athletes and support staff as well as fans of all walks of life. I just spoke with him yesterday morning and we were to get together next week for coffee. Those of you who are so inclined to do so, please pray for his family and loved ones. Team Chaplains are not a part of sports that most fans think or even know about, but a very vital piece of a team. A job that has tremendous impact and reward with little public praise. It was easy to see in Revs eyes how much John meant to him...almost too hard for me to keep eye contact with Rev. Good friends are so important in our lives that the shock of losing one can swiftly take you to your knees. Yet, even with now missing John, Rev knows John has gone only to accept his rewards. Rev said, "I know where he is".

It is tough when you lose a dear friend or relative so suddenly. I will truly miss the time that we used to spend together over lunch or just having coffee. But to quote John."that is why we do what we do Cliff, to try and help prepare people for what happens next." All I know is, He was prepared. Goodbye dear friend, I along with a lot of others will truly miss you and your positive attitude and smile.
