The silence on this board may become silence at Nytex. My interest has waned markedly over the last 12 games or so. Churla has an interesting if inflammatory
post on another thread. It didn't even draw a response.Something has happened to this team but what? Surely this tailspin is not because of Shep's
loss. Hard question to ask but I will ask anyway: How much slack will the owners cut Dan?

Maybe it's me. Since I joined the Fan Club in December the team has gone 2-9! Must be a jinx!

As I think back the skate around once the dogs and Laredo were slain once seems now to be their celebration for the end of a mission and an end to a season.
Since then several have not shown up to work. The team has reverted to individual play not team play with each player acting alone and trying to win by
themselves. Team play seems almost dead. The opposition knows that and uses it. Time to make a team again.

I think the biggest problem is a lack of depth. Key defenseman and a key forward are hurt. Goaltender the Brahmas have been riding is nursing a bad back. There
aren't guys on the bench able to step up, takes time to build depth and there wasn't time in the short off-season for Wildfong to do much more than put
together a decently talented team.

Wow...........that's pretty deep! Bugs have been in this situation before. Just be thankful you got off to a good start. There's time to see a
turn-around. When we came to your "barn" on New Year's Eve, I saw two good hockey teams on the ice. We got the extra bounce that night.
I'm personally not impresses with a certain hot-head on your team. He seems one-dimensional to me. I guess he could motivate or be a real detriment to
the team........according to the situation.

Old die hard posters and two from Dan's old team.... psst its like living in a library.
All the points are great. FWIW my opinions come from more than CHL Slee-Vee. Best in Hockey Westy

I agree with John. We have the stuff we need, but why now is it not working. We should have owned the Thunder, but then so should the Rage. They got beat by
the same lack luster team, in OT of course but still. Not sure what we are missing, but we have to get it back soon.

That may be precisely the reason. You would be amazed how the loss of one leader can cause the play of an entire team to go downhill. |

I presume their will be some changes this week for sure. It is hard to get new players this time of year that will effect and raise the bar. By the way, when
is Shepherd expected back?

They need consistency because when they played the Mudbugs on NewYears eve and it was a great game. They have the potential but need a few guys to step up and give them Leadership in the room... |

If the loss of one player has taken away our ability to win, then we are one dimensional and as stated have no depth since no one will or can step up. I would
not be willing to risk thinking the team might be suffering from crippling doubt although that is interesting. It would mean their ability to win is most
fragile and easily aimed at by the other teams. As far as John's post about CHL TV I was not referring to him I was speaking for myself about myself.
Loss of a team mate/mates causing the playing scheme to disappear and no one passing or making plays sounds like what we are use to. We no longer have some one in front of the net, or bang the net for the rebound. In short we are generally flat with plays made by a single player on the tender. Most times with out result and the puck stays on the ice never lifted to the corners. There is hesitation once the puck is won which leads to its immediate loss. That changed the other night at NYTEX against the Bugs but returned the other night at the Thunder. I think this is the fun everyone was hoping for... Best in hockey Westy

is for a reason, tiring to remain positive no matter what, holding onto all hope that things will be better soon. And who knows maybe they will , the other
side of that coin is that they wont. Look at what has taken place so far, the schedule, the division and what's left of the season and you see why some are
so concerned. But you have to look at it honestly and not with rose colored glasses. Most of our wins came early and mostly from teams in the southern
conference. Sure we beat the bugs etc. early in the season and have skated well at times against other divisional games but have come up short. Then look at
the ones that at least on paper we should of walked away with and didn't. Our placement now within the division and within the league itself and it becomes
doubtful we even split the 35 games left. Add to that injuries and a team that at least at times seems to have lost there focus to play as a team or execute
the coaches scheme while other teams seem to get better with each game, while we seem to of at best of late stay the same. The rest of the season IMO seems to
be harder and more complicated for the fans team and coach.
Big Snake under utilized and used for the wrong purpose to often, this is a guy looking at his past can do a lot more then fight. I know most will say that's what he was hired to do but why limit his role to that. The guy has some good hands in other leagues he had 20 + goals why not some here. If the Chemistry (I hate that phrase) is off because of Shepp being out change up a few things to get it going what we are doing now isn't working. And don't just sit on a lead bury the other team run up the score let'em know who they just played. Shepp is mostly likely out for some time could be several more weeks if rumors are correct. Besides everybody that's seen him say he's still in a cast, I don't think you wear one for nothing. Hire another gun even if it's short term. Cameron, Ski, K-man and others need the help. And the D has to step it up, they need to play the same way and as hard as they do on the PK all the time. They do that and things will go there way more other then not. The let downs to catch there breath are killing them. Well this soap box is getting a little long but I have more if you really want to talk about hockey.

I think that ya'll need to pump up your team. Ya'll need to make some noise! Ya'll need to motivate your team. If they are down by a goal they
could really use the motivation, it gets them going. You don't see us(mudbug fans) just sitting around. We shout, we yell, we motivate them. Get something
going and get behind your team. Don't just sit around on this board talking about what isn't working and get out there and do something!

A little look back at what we all expected doesn't lead us far from where this team is. Most expected a solid team that could have a chance to win most
nights and would end up in the .500 range at seasons end.
Well guess what, that is about where this team is right now. They are even with a 14-14-1 record. They have been in just about every game with a few exceptions and it is a solid team that has some good fight and ability. I know I predicted 30 wins and right now that is just about where we would end up. Sure, we got 6 in the first 7, but who really cares, they still count in the standings! If this team does end the season with 60-64 pts, they will either just miss the playoffs or be the last seed in the conf with the new playoff format. Heck last season, Wichita got in with 64 pts! This season, there are 4 teams right now in the North with .500 or worse records. The South has the same amount with a 5th trying to join them. Talk about lossing...Miss. has 5 loses in a row to our 4 in a row. They are showing very similar signs as the Brahmas right now. Heck, Laredo is on a skid right now themselves. Streaks come and go and this one will as well. You have to ask yourself though - Does this team have enough to win the division or be at the top of the North? I think the answer is honestly NO, but that doesn't mean it is a fully bad thing either. All it takes is a playoff spot and then all bets are off come playoff time. A good example in sports was just a few seasons ago, when the 6th seed Pittsburg Steelers won 3 games on the road in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl and then took it all home - The first time in history! Anything can happen in playoffs...The CHL has seen this as well not to many yrs ago with Memphis winning it all after everyone wrote them off. All of this talk is great, but the bottom line is pretty simple. The team just has to score more and give up less. Right now the offense is struggling because of some key losses, the defense is tired/hurt and needs to get healthy. Injuries will kill a team and most seasons, you will find that at the end of it all, whoever can avoid the injuries and then fill them quickly/best when they do, will be the last teams standing. Not one player. Shep and Minard are out. Cash is hurting. Three big players. Anyone out would hurt, all three would be a tough go for any team, more or less
one coming off a year long hiatus.

The first time Minard went on IR the team won 6 of 8, including wins over the Bucks, Turtles, and Hounds. Minard has been or will have been out 28 days so far
this season. Perhaps Shep should have been placed on 30 day IR when it became obvious his injury was severe. Jaeger was signed to give Cash some time to heal.
Hopefully that will pan out. Injuries can suck the energy out of a team. Look at the Stars, who have crashed and burned since losing Zubov, Lehtinen, Boucher,
and Jokinen.
Thirty wins for this team would put it about even with the 04-05 team, which won just under half its games and finished out of the playoffs with 58 points. |
