1. Dan Wildfong is still a very good athlete-- he can smack the tennis ball around. He beat me last night 6-4 and 6-3 in our version of Wimbledon/Texas style. Of course, this might not be a huge feat because the ex-athlete beat the "suit." But he hustled and made smart plays just like he did when he played hockey and when he is behind the bench.
2. It appears tonight the City of Seattle and the Supersonics have reached an agreement to move to OKC for THIS season. This is one of the reasons the CHL schedule has not yet appeared as they were waiting to see how this would affect the Blazers and the Ford Center. It seems the CHL had two different versions of the schedule involving the Blazers. So now it appears we all know which one it will be. We should have the league and team schedules out in another week or so...maybe by the end of next week hopefully.
This news is not great for the Blazers or the CHL. However, I have great faith in Brad Lund and the OKC ownership to again prove their strength in promoting hockey despite the glitz, glamor, and instant hype about a major league sports franchise moving permanently into that market. The Blazers have persevered before and I expect the same now.
3. We wish Chad Woollard great luck in the IHL. Hopefully he will succeed in Muskegon.
4. Dan Wildfong's hockey camp will be in full force in a few weeks at the NYTEX Sports Centre. This will be a great chance to learn hockey from Dan, Forbes, Jaeger, and others.
5. Sponsor and season ticket renewals continue to be coming in to the franchise. Off the ice, based on our first year in NRH and having a successful on ice product, things are coming together very well in the off season.
6. Frank Trazzera's son Frankie performed fantastic in a national tournament in Philadelphia last week in the "Squirt" level (9 and 10 years old). He scored a hat trick in one of the games. The national squad was coached by Craig Ludwig and assisted by Frank.
7. Happy Fourth of July to All! Not too far from hockey season!
Mike
