I bring this up for 2 reasons...And now time for some useless CHL playoff trivia: Game 6 winners have only won the seventh game six times in 17 all-time Game 7's in CHL/WPHL history.
The six teams that swept Games 6 and 7:
2007 second round: New Mexico over Arizona
2007 first round (mulligan): Oke City over Memphis
2004 finals: Laredo over Shreveport (came back from a 3-1 deficit)
2000 finals: Indianapolis over Columbus
1997 finals: Fort Worth over Memphis
1994 first round: Tulsa over Oke City (came back from a 3-1 deficit)
Of note, Oke City in 2007 and Indianapolis in 2000 both won Game 7 on the road, with Indy being the only team to sweep Games 6 and 7 on the road. That means Texas would be making rare playoff history while Laredo has already rallied from a 3-2 deficit before, with several of the Bucks' core players (Bes, Dube, Hiebert, Simoes and Weidlich) on hand for that comeback.
First, I think it is just fun to look at this kind of historical stuff for the predicting people... sure it has some merit, but in the end it is about odds not history...
Second, the 1997 finals in FW had a similar shooting into the net incident...although it didn't result in any brawls or even a scuffle/verbal match by anyone it is interesting to note... before each of the games in FW in that 97 CHL finals series, FW warmed up in the south zone (closed to exit), Memphis in the north zone obviously...we had a few players that always were the last off the ice in warmups after Memphis' last players left the ice (could have been superstious act, I don't know) and one of them (can't remember who exactly) would always shot at the north zone goal until he got one in the net, sometimes once sometimes a few times...well Memphis didn't like this I suppose so in warmups of game 7 they laid the net down flat (opening down) on the ice and pushed it up against the boards (top shelve toward south zone) so he couldn't do his ritual final warmup shot (Game 1,2,6 were all in FW also)... just thought I would mention that since all the talk about disrespect and shooting into empty nets... obviously not the same as after a game, but none the less similar at a lesser note...
