Presidential cabinets........can be a powerful group. I think George's was so high on him and themselves as a exclusive part of our government, they eventually isolated themselves from the rest. That isolation turned into a barrier of mis-trust. Much later, little by little they started to crumble....until there was almost a bare naked George...the lame duck. I don't think it was all George's fault. I think he may have been overly impressed with the power within that group. Colin (whuuuups, thanks Westy) Powell was, I think, the first to feel the fallacy of that group and escape.

All of these people are sort of untested until put into a position of power. Is that enough to change their personalities?

If John McCain were elected, who would be his cabinet?

In reality, I think we elect far more than just a President.

You have listed good, understandable reasons to choose John McCain. You insinuate Barack Obama is not proud to be an American. Michelle Obama also explained she's proud of the country and wouldn't be where she is if not for its possibilities. That's a quote. Unless you really want to believe those negative ideas and sound bites literally, and not research the explainations of them, so be it. For me, I couldn't believe a presidential candidate and his wife could be so stupid as to say those kinds of things. So, I quickly and easily researched them via Snopes.com. I found satisfactory answers refutiating both initial claims.

Can you conceive a black man running for president of the United States and saying he would not repeat the Pledge of Allegence? He already took the Oath of Office to become a US Senator???? Ring a bell? Can you imagine a wife of that candidate really meaning she had never been proud of her country? Both would be booed off the first podium. Wouldn't they? If our news is right, Obama easily leads McCain in the run up to the election. A very surprising fact just on the news is that service men and women in Iraq favor Obama six to one over McCain. Previous to this, I thought the military voted Republican.

All I want for Barack Obama is an honest chance as a candidate. Racism in this country is head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the world, but we still deal with it. Some in this country will battle Obama with their dying breath, just because they can't fathom any black person as worthwhile.

You live in Shreveport. I was raised in the Mississippi Delta. I think both of us were surrounded by racism few others here can imagine. It took a while for me, but eventually I realized blacks were not supposed to be dumb, dirty, and denied priviledge. That kind of thinking still exists amoung some old friends in my home town. My old school/high school...as soon as Federal law integrated it, every last white student attending it bailed out. And, it has stayed that way. There....it is a way of life.

No doubt, you're right. Yet, one thing I've been conscious of for most of this campaigning is the news appears to always present Barack Obama first with more press time followed by John McCain with less. Have you ever felt that? It's like the networks know something we don't? The poll of our soldiers in Iraq was rather stunning to me, but then, they probably all want to go home, and think they could under Obama's leadership.
